Gilbert "Fred" Frederick Barva, 87, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:08 pm June 4, 2024 at his residence. He was born December 25, 1936 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late James and Pauline (Barva) Sefried. Fred married Mary Jo (Olivier) Barva on February 17, 1973.
In addition to his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Fred is survived by his son, Brian Barva and wife, Kelly of Bonnie, Illinois and grandson, Brendan Barva and friend, Dolly Pickford of Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Mr. Barva proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Fred worked as a custodian and bus driver for McClellen School and loved his time working with the children. He had also previously worked at Precision National in Mount Vernon and Caterpillar Tractor in Decatur. Fred loved to garden and will be greatly missed.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Wolf Prairie Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinoi
