Berneita Ann Ellis, 89, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 6:30 pm August 11, 2024 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born November 17, 1934 in Smithfield, Illinois to the late Harry L. and Maude Leona (Swise) Beaird. Berneita married Adra Carl Ellis on November 27, 1950. They were blessed with nearly sixty-six years of marriage until he preceded her in death on July 14, 2016.
Berneita is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Johnson and husband Bill and Susan Smith; grandchildren, Sean Tolley, Koree Smith and wife, Angela, Julianna Cisneros and husband, Lawrence, Heather Daniels and husband Craig, Marissa Mann and husband, Jason; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Shirley Robinson.
In addition to her parents, Berneita was preceded in death by her son, James Mark Ellis; son-in-law, Norman E. Tolley, Jr.; sisters, Harriett Luncsford and Annawayne Linck; and brother, Harry L. Beaird, Jr.
